HOME & VEHICLE ASSESSMENTS

In-Home Safety Assessments can be virtual or in-person, and can provide insight and recommendations on the following areas:

  • Safety of the home environment and potential fall risk for clients. Looking specifically at the entry to the home, passageways, bathroom safety and accessibility, bedroom safety, and stairs.

  • Upper and Lower extremity function

  • Assessing balance in a client.

  • Mobility around the home; including mobility with assistive devices such as walkers, canes, and wheelchairs.

  • Transfers in the bathroom, onto the bed, onto chairs, on and off the toilet, and into and out of the client’s vehicle.

  • The client’s walking and standing endurance.

  • How the client is managing pain.

  • Activities of Daily Living: Dressing, Toileting, Hygiene, and bathing.

  • Independent Activities of Daily Living: Meal preparation, laundry, homemaking, groceries, outdoor maintenance, transportation, and medication management.

  • Cognitive screening including: short term memory, visual motor integration, orientation, and attention.

Vehicle and home modification assessments would include a visit with the client’s preferred vendor to look at options of the how the environment can be best suited for the client’s particular needs or mobility device. This also includes the reports and paperwork required to access funding sources such as March of Dimes.
